Stretch tents, the ultimate function tent

Planning an event can be stressful, but so much less stressful if you have a reliable venue that can get guests relaxed, helps people to mingle and turn on the charm for something fun. Stretch tents create a spectacular atmosphere for weddings, parties, corporate events, and exhibitions. You too can pull off an event which everyone will enjoy with the use of a stretch tent.

Why use a stretch tent for your next function?

Planning an Outdoor Wedding in the UK

If you are considering a wedding between May and September and love the idea of getting married with the sun shining down on your celebration, you must be aware of the UK rules and regulations associated with an outdoor wedding before you commit to booking a venue. This article has been designed as a guide, to help you plan a perfect wedding ceremony with an outdoor theme.

The Rules and Regulations of Outdoor Wedding Ceremonies in the UK

It may be okay to get married wherever your heart desires if you’re in the United States, but here in the UK the rules on celebrating your wedding outdoors are quite different. According to the Buckinghamshire County Council, “All the legal requirements of a ceremony must be held within a permanent, immovable structure, with a fixed roof and solid floor. This needs to be large enough to accommodate the couple, two Registrars, both witnesses and a table large enough to prepare the paperwork.” Wedding guests, however, are able to witness your wedding from a garden or outdoor set up.

How to Celebrate an Outdoor Wedding in the UK

If you plan on celebrating a civil wedding ceremony at a licensed wedding venue, you can replicate the al fresco feeling by setting up an aisle with chairs either side of it leading up to two chairs and a table set up inside a licensed room or structure. If you’ve chosen to get married at a licensed wedding venue or hotel, they may advise that the doors are opened out on to the grounds or gardens and that the couple can sit facing forward with their guests sat outside, behind them.
Alternatively, a wedding venue may choose to ‘license’ specific structures around the grounds, such as a wooden pergola, a stone structure or an historic feature at the venue. If your chosen wedding venue has an official licence granted on an external structure (featuring a fixed roof and solid floor as mentioned above), then a truly outdoor wedding is possible.

Top Tip: It’s down to the discretion of the registrar marrying you on the day as to whether or not the temperature is suitable for you to go ahead with your pre-planned outdoor wedding ceremony set up. If the temperature is not deemed warm enough then you may need to forego your original plan and bring everyone inside.

Celebrating an Outdoor Ceremony

There are ways to celebrate your marriage without having to legally get married under a licenced structure in front of your guests. This would be known as a celebrant ceremony. The couple would legally need to marry at a licensed venue such as a registry office, but are then free to celebrate their marriage with friends and family anywhere they like in a more casual setting.

5 Things to Consider When Planning an Outdoor Wedding

  • Ensure your venue has a wet-weather back up plan in place, just in case.
  • If you think your guests may get too hot during your ceremony, perhaps ask to have electric fans set up in appropriate spots where possible. Alternatively, you could have a basket of hand-held fans available for guests to pick up as they arrive at your venue and parasols for more elderly guests.
  • If you are inviting a large number of guests to your outdoor wedding, they may not be able to hear you over the natural noise created by being outside. Consider speaking to your venue about hiring a microphone if they recommend it for your guest numbers or set up, and if amplified music is permitted outside.
  • You may not want to scatter petals down the aisle or have any decorative items that might blow away if the wind picks up. Candles are particularly challenging!
  • Older guests may become thirsty if the weather is very hot or muggy. Having jugs and glasses of water at the ready could be a good idea.
  • Consider using stretch tents for weddings in the UK - as it allows adequate shading, and airflow throughout. It also looks magical having a wedding in a stretch tent. Tip - find stretch tents, UK and around, at Tentickle International Stretch Tents.

Predicted 2018 Trends for Corporate Parties

When a client commits budget to organising a corporate party or event, that budget is likely to be a significant amount. From the venue hire and catering to the event design, entertainment and the overall experience, they want to see value for their money at every level. Ultimately, they want to see that the event has had a positive impact on the morale, relationships and attitudes of those who attended. No pressure then.
Mike Walker is Managing Director of MGN Events, one of the UK’s leading corporate party planners. He has been designing and managing corporate events for national and international brands since 2008. Here are his predictions for what he thinks will be big in 2018.
Get the ‘why’ right and the rest will follow
Smarter thinking is the way forward. Even if a client says they simply want to throw a party, it’s important to take a strategic approach at the planning stage and to understand their business objectives – you may even have to help define them in some cases. Once clarified, use those objectives as the criteria for how the budget is spent – the focus, of course, has to be on attendee engagement.
Unique venues
No real surprise here – booking a hotel or conference centre is no longer enough. Making do with mediocre won’t excite anyone. The wow factor starts with the venue and an unusual setting immediately makes a statement and helps to create a fantastic experience. Expect to see even more non-traditional venues popping up – places that will create a real buzz across the event industry. Just like Airbnb has disrupted the hospitality market, we fully expect to see something similar happening in our industry. There are already whispers of exciting plans developing and 2018 will undoubtedly see some interesting developments. Event tents, already growing in popularity, always allows for a unique and fun event and experience.
Technology to enhance the experience
It’s an exciting time to be in the events industry. Advances in technology mean there are so many ‘toys’ to play with and use creatively within corporate parties. Used well, technology should enhance engagement at an event and help to create a truly immersive experience. Imagine a corporate event whereby different teams and people from regional or overseas offices come together. Handing out name badges and a glass of prosecco really isn’t going to get the party started. But you can use technology to encourage interaction between relative strangers – this very effective icebreaker encourages conversations and can also become part of the corporate messaging. Apps, gamification, RFID, virtual reality activities are all examples of technology which will have an increasingly bigger role to play over the next 12 months and beyond.
Turning a party into a memorable event
Providing an amazing experience that is memorable is an obvious ROI, but it can never be overstated. It’s all about taking care of every last detail to ensure that the party is on brand and the corporate messages are effectively conveyed. Attendees need to come away having had a brilliant time and in no doubt as to what it was all about and why they were there.
Food, glorious food!
As the backbone of any event, catering expectations are always high. The onus will be on caterers and event designers to continue to push creativity and develop exciting menus. Whether it’s edible cocktails that match the client’s corporate brand colours or creating inspiring food stations, catering will no longer be just a matter of taste. It will also become more integral to the event theme and food will help create a sense of theatre, leading to a more memorable experience and creating yet another talking point for attendees.
Content is key, but so is simplicity
In contrast to the advanced technology that surrounds an event, we see a paring back in terms of how content is displayed. The days of all-singing, all-dancing slide decks are numbered – perhaps due to waning attention spans – and there is a move towards simpler presentation. In 2018, less will be more. It will be all about getting the message across simply and directly. It is a party, after all, and people don’t want to have to analyse information in any great depth. Deliver the message in a way that is easily digestible and easy to recall the next day, the next week or even a month later.
Chatting with the chatbots
Expect chatbots to become a ‘must have’ element on event registration sites in 2018. Already in use on messaging platforms such as Facebook Messenger, the use of chatbots is growing as the technology becomes ever more sophisticated. We anticipate that they will start appearing on event websites with a view to entering into a dialogue with attendees and answering questions traditionally covered by FAQs. It’s only a matter of time before chatbots become the norm within the event industry. Watch this space.
Think industrial
MGN’s Artistic Director, Matthew Strange, always has a great sense of the next big thing and, when it comes to design, he has spotted a trend towards industrial themes. It’s a trend that’s apparent in some of the hottest venues around London – forget highly finished interiors and, instead, embrace concrete, steel and exposed structures that have a strange beauty all of their own. Complementing this will be colour palettes of greys and metallic, along with plenty of texture. A great alternative is hiring event tents to host your swaray - tried and tested Tentickle International Tents offer fantastic event tents for a great, and more cost effective way, to throw a spectacular event!
Insects
Small creatures will be big in 2018. We’re just saying.

OUTDOOR WEDDING - DREAM OR NIGHTMARE?

Let’s face it, there’s nothing more beautiful or romantic than tying the knot in the great outdoors, surrounded by your closest friends and family; and while you may think you have it all covered and nothing’s going to spoil your big day, there’s always that one lady who marches to the beat of her own drum: Mother Nature. And she sure knows how to throw a whole lot of unforeseen stuff your way.
Since we’re in the business of outdoor events, we understand just how destructive our darling Mother Nature can be. But we also know how important your occasion is, so we’ve come up with a few ideas to help save the day...

  • Plan B: Be smart so that if the weather doesn’t work in your favour on your big day you have a Plan B to fall back on. (Your Plan B might be arranging things so that you can pull things indoors quickly. Or you could also just throw everything into the swimming pool on the assumption that once everything is sodden, it can’t get any wetter. But that might not suit Anal Aunt Alice.)
  • The weather over there: If you’re planning a destination wedding, don’t forget to learn as much as you can about the weather in that destination. That dirts cheap airline ticket to a tropical island? Could be because it’s hurricane season. Although you might be looking forward to partying up a typhoon, you don’t want to plan your wedding on a tropical island during hurricane season. Trust us on this one.
  • Booking business: Always check the venue’s cancellation and postponements policies, and pay attention to policies regarding postponements due to natural disasters or ‘acts of god.’ How far in advance can you cancel or postpone, and how far in advance are they required to notify you if they cannot fulfil their contract? (And no, you probably won’t be able to cancel if you suddenly discover that you’re wearing the wrong undies as you’re walking up the aisle.)
  • Insurance assurance: One way to safeguard your big day: invest in wedding insurance. Research the available policies, and always read the fine print. Your special day is likely to be a major financial investment so choose a policy that’s appropriate for you, your location and your peace of mind. Don’t skimp on the insurance; when in doubt always, always… *always* safeguard yourself and your day!
  • Make a list. Check it twice: Always make sure that you have an updated and accurate hard-copy of your master list - which should include contact information of all wedding vendors, guests and members of the wedding party, and make sure that both you and your right-hand person (maid-of-honour, wedding planner, mum, best friend) have copies of this list. This way, any last minute changes in venue can quickly be communicated to all vendors and guests
  • Use the technology: There are numerous flight-tracking, road travel and weather applications that will help you stay on top of schedules, changes in weather and delays in travel. Forewarned is forearmed.
  • Calm, Cool, Collected: It’s happening - and there is nothing you can do about it. The weather’s worsening - or maybe disaster’s already struck - but you need to stay calm, cool and collected. The important thing to remember is that none of us can control ol’ Mother Nature - but we can prepare for her. So stop, breathe, and rely on your vendors and the people who have planned your day to help you weather the storm. And remember that Tentickle marquee tent manufacturers, UK based, high-quality tent suppliers,  provide peace of mind because there tents can withstand some of the most harrowing weather and wind speeds up to 40 knots.

Hopefully you won’t need to use any of these tips, but whether you do or you don’t, we hope that your day will be full of love, happiness and memories that’ll last forever - no matter what Mother Nature might have in store.
